I’m Kyle, and that’s my dog Kiya. I’m not sure how you’ve come across this page, but I’m glad you’re here. This is my all-purpose resume, demo reel and work examples page. As a jack of many trades, I’ve got quite a few things on here, so feel free to use the navigation below to find what you’re looking for. Just in case I’ve left something unanswered, you can contact me with your questions via email.
Every designer has their own style and niche. I specialize in rapidly deploying sharp, modern looking websites that look just as good on a phone as they do on a desktop. Sometimes you just need a solid, reliable website built with a personal touch. My designs follow a simple philosophy:
- SEO and Social Optimization
All the great design in the world is meaningless without building a strong bridge between social media and your content. All of my websites are optimized for prime placement on search engines, and links to my sites on social media work to drive traffic to where it belongs.
- Simple yet Powerful Designs
Web design needs to follow the same trend that gaming has, and for the same reasons. People don’t just look at websites on big screens anymore, so building sites that don’t stand between the user and the content is key. I design with the understanding that people don’t want to stare at a wall of text. They need engagement, color and movement.
- Be Kind to your Audience
Nobody wants to wander into your sight and get blasted by a video that auto-plays. No popups, no interstitials and no surprises. I use ‘passive interactivity’ to let the user decide what they want, and the result is a much happier audience.
I’ve been taking photos since before I can remember, but I started doing so professionally starting around 2009. I am more of a technical photographer than a artistic one, but I dabble in both realms. My specialty is in real estate, architectural and special photography (photogrammetry).
My current gear of choice consists of my trusty workhorse, the Canon 5D MkIII and whatever L glass is called for. I always shoot on manual and in RAW in order to gain as much creative control as possible.
Film making has always been a passion of mine, but I haven’t had many opportunities to stretch my legs thanks to Iowa’s limited film scene. That didn’t stop me from making terrible home movies growing up, or from using my photography equipment to make better short films as an adult.
I take part in the Iowa 48 Hour Film Festival each year, and am proud to have been part of a award winning team:
- 1st Runner Up (Two years in a row)
- Best Editing
- Best Cinematography
- Best Special Effects
- Best Use of Genre
My primary roles have been:
- Visual/Special Effects
- Camera Operator
- Assistant Director
- Sound and Music Design (Discordance)
